From the birth of the child, sleep is one of the most pressing issues for the mother. Frequent waking at night, which starts in newborns, is an issue that needs to be regulated as the baby grows. While newborn babies spend 16-18 hours of sleep a day, after 6 months, the sleep time starts to decrease in babies. Sleep time, which can be reduced to 12 hours until the age of 3, may decrease further in the preschool period.
Children should get at least 10 hours of sleep per night during the preschool period. Therefore, sleep patterns should fit well. Children who do not get enough sleep can have physical and mental problems. As scientifically proven, a night's sleep is essential for the correct secretion of growth hormones.
So what should we do for regular sleep in children?
- Children should not have television or tablet habits. Daily television viewing and tablet usage times should be limited.
- Children should take on the course load and responsibilities according to their age.
- Children's sleeping hours should be determined and they should definitely try to sleep at that time.
- Caffeinated beverages should not be drunk during the day and especially close to sleep time.
- The child needs to fall asleep in a dark room.
- The child's bed must be one that is suitable for his age and physical development.
- The temperature of the children's room should be suitable.
